The importance of STEM to future economic prosperity and innovation cannot be underestimated. Yearly growth of STEAM jobs is projected to be almost double that of non- STEAM jobs. Young children with a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics will go on to play an integral role in our nation’s global competitiveness and economic stability.
The Steam Fun Fest will be vital in exposing young children to digital skills, sparking a love for STEAM in them, while getting young children ready for the future of work
In 2021, the idea of STEAM Fun Fest was birthed by three (3) women in STEM with the aim to spark a love for STEAM in children and prepare them for the future of work. This was borne out of the necessity for young people to be equipped with digital skills as the world is experiencing a rapid growth in the area of technology. This event was hosted virtually and attended by over 1,300 children.
In 2022, the STEAM Fun Fest team made up of a consortium of STEM Educators- 9ijakids, STEM METS, Edufun Technik Hub and SabiTeach, organized the first of its kind physical STEAM Fun Fest for children ages 7-13 years at the Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
This event welcomed over 6,000 attendees – parents and children to the event, exposing them to STEAM through career talks, fun hands on STEAM activities, and games, becoming the very first physical African STEAM event for young children.
